Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows

Guy Ritchie and his cast knock it out of the park with the second installment of the Sherlock Holmes movies, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law (who makes a mustache look as close to scrumptious as it’s ever going to get). All the key elements of the first movie are back: eye-catching, heart-pounding action (enhanced by choice ticks of slow-mo), an amusing and at times touching bond between Holmes and Watson. Sprinkled into the mix is an adversary worthy of Holmes, whose tricks and games propel the plot along at a good pace. A less convoluted (but no less interesting) plot and a thinned-out English accent also mark Game of Shadows.

While it probably won’t change the course of cinematic history, it’s entertaining and definitely worth seeing in theaters, where the soundtrack and effects can shine. Besides, you need a reason to rest your feet after so much holiday shopping.
